I love families where the generations overlap. Much like my own brood, nieces can swap out for sisters and uncles, sons. It can be very confusing to the onlooker, but oh so fun on the inside. Add that bustling bounty to a bitter breeze and you will be sure to capture everyone, eyes wide open, bursting with beauty! It was undeniably freezing the day of this shoot, but with folk in town from every coast of the nation, the moment had to be seized. Here is a small scattering of the varied shots from our fun session the day after Christmas...

It was terrific to meet you all, extended S family, and I thank you for your good humor and warm smiles that kept the blood running through my own body! You were superstars!

What an honor when clients come from near...and FAR for their photo shoots. It took these guys a few tries and dozens and dozens of miles to find dear old Preston Beach, a hidden gem around here, but when they did, their smiles and laughter lit up the skies. I love when families extend themselves and share the love in front of the camera. Here are three siblings, all emerging at life from different angles, brightening up a chilly November day. They were just terrific. It was super meeting you, D extended family. Here is a sneak peek at your pics...

3 beautiful girls. What a gift.

And one on the way... what will it be?

I had such a happy session with these three lovely young ladies and their family. What love abounds.

It's been a hectic, exhaustingly busy few weeks, and I'm working night and day on my mountain of pics for you all. Worry not, being snap-happy has been such a joy and privilege and turnaround time is still under 2 weeks from time of session to receipt of your CD. That said, I'm afraid if something had to give, the blog was the best thing possible. Lord knows my heart has been with my babies, bouncing and beaming as they are, and my brain with my awesome Canon-Dell Duo. Still, as I was finishing up these pics this morning, I wanted to share a bit of beauty and golden goodness on this grateful day with you, thanking you all for being what you are... patient, supportive, joyful and camera-cozy! You have made this fall so very full of smiles and I have loved meeting and capturing each and every one of you.

J&Q - E Shoot

J&Q are really quite awesome together. Cool, calm, cheerful and in love. J and I started our first right out of college teaching jobs together... almost a decade ago. What a lot has changed in our lives since then. I can't tell you what an honor it was to hear from her about her engagement and be asked to photograph them both. Another colleague and dear friend of ours always told me, the two happiest days in your life are the day you get engaged and the day your first child is born. Alas, I can say they are definitely among my faves along side our wedding day, subsequent children's births, honeymoon dayzzzz, oh and rehoneymoons, family reunions from foreign lands and and a few other hidden jewels along the way. Ah, life is good...

These two have the soon-to-be-married, forever's at our fingertips kind of glow. And, they've picked a gem of a wedding date! I know you'll enjoy this glimpse of their togetherness, as two hearts on the threshold of L.I.F.E, and as a terrific trio with their pup, Mister O. He's quite the rascal, make no mistake, but adds oodles of fun, slobber and glee to these pics, and clearly J&Q's everyday. Love that. Love these. Love to you, the beautiful couple. Portrait Party Season!

Portrait Parties are all the rage! And I just love them. Two weekends ago I met these 12 new and wonderful families from towns that I truly have never heard of and they put the sparkle into a cool, quintessentially autumnal day at Endicott Park. It's a beautiful spot, that's for sure, but it's the smiles, twinkly eyes and pizzazz that these guys brought that made these photos so much more than just photos. I'm mailing their CDs to them today. Each family is taking home between 30 and 99 (oh my crazy!) high-res, frame-worthy pics to keep forever, and that is just from 14 minutes and 59 seconds or less of session time. We ran perfectly on time :) Hooray for awesome children, spectacular surroundings and speed of light shutter speeds. Oh, and also hooray for Aimee, the organizer of this brilliant bash, the keeper of the donut treats and the owner of an actually-in-her-pocketbook pocketknife that saved the day when I, for the first time ever, needed memory card number three busted out and those tamper-proof packets proved to be truly, terribly tamper-proof, even for my big ole Hare teeth. Endicott fams, I loved meeting you all, even more than I love these images below, and that says A LOT.

It's Friday, so you deserve a treat. Believe it or not, this is just a sneak peek, but I couldn't help but post a few on this most glorious day, of this most glorious family who I can tell you are absolutely as loving, beautiful and captivating as they appear in these shots. It was such a pleasure to photograph these fine folk again and while the editing process can sometimes be an almighty task, this time every new image that downloads off my camera seems to be my reminder of all the good in this world. The tangible giggles and tender adoration of one another is ever so apparent in every image and makes my job such a joy. And what a miracle families are: in every shape and size and sparkle of the sun. Thank you for taking me back to all that matters, you three, almost four. You are just the most awesome.

T Fam

This was a fun hour! I knew this family name when they signed up for a golden light session a couple of months back, but didn't know them. Funnily enough, my parents were our connection, something they didn't realize until about half way through our shoot. My mama said these folk were more than wonderful, but the T padres didn't know I was a Hare. Perhaps our different last names, opposite accents and the generations of leverets spanning three decades confused them! Go figure... But, boy, do I love small towns and friendships that overlap in the craziest ways. Today at Abbot Library, I ran into someone I did a shoot for this past weekend. I had never seen her before our session and today, just 3 days later, we were busting a rhyme and up to our elbows in glue sticks with our 5.75 babies combined like old pals. The same thing has happened with so many of my clients, and dare I say that even if I didn't love this work enough to keep me going strong, the mere love of knowing a smiling face on every street corner is certainly egging me on. Anyway, without further ado, here are some pics of this new and fabulous family, oozing with constant joy and fun. I am sure I'll see them here, there and everywhere now, but until then, I'm pretty content with having their genuinely gorgeous and giddy faces light up my screen.

The P Family Returns to P Beach

A year on, this family is still as beautiful, solid and sincere. Last year they were graced with pink sky at night and indeed, it was a delight. This year, despite being October 9th, it was 86 degrees and crazy beautiful out. Someone up there is smiling on these guys. The sun and my camera just love their blond streaks, their sparkly eyes and captivating, calm togetherness. Over 200 images are theirs to keep from our hour together, hence the trouble in picking just a few to share, but here is a glimmer of their greatness and the good things that happen when awesome people grow up before your awesome lens.

Sunshine Day

I keep writing here that this is most likely the last warm and summery session to be posted, but in my older years, I have become quicker to point out when I am wrong, and here, ever so publicly, I am proven ever so incorrect once more. I guess as long as there are families that ooze warmth and sunshine, summer will go on. These guys were no exception. What a beautiful thing to capture a mama (who happens to be spellboundingly beautiful) and her two blessed babes. Up and down the hills of Fort Sewall we ran the day before October arrived. We played t-ball, we threw leaves, we looked for prisoners in the jail and held hands for all sorts of smiles, but my favorite shots of all are these... just two little ones and their mother who adores them. No props, special effects or editing stunts needed. Perfect.

the joy of friends

Photographing friends is about as harmoniously happy as it can get for me. Hanging out with two of my true loves: le sel de la terre y Señor Canon. Photographing my own family is also fun, but I rarely try any tricks with them and most of the time end up throwing my camera aside in the name of living the moment, but then of course, missing the kodak one :( Oh and sometimes, quite often, I throw the camera aside because, plain and simple: they are hams! Occasionally as uncooperative and feisty as foolish pheasants. Yup, those crazy cuddly cute faces you see on here from time to time...

...they do sometimes drive me mad. Really, mamas who are clients, I do understand why your little ones' session sitting or lack there of can make you bonkers. But with a little faith and the occasional deep, deep breath, (oh for a Cuba Libre) aren't the pics always a reward...?

Anyway... I digress... to go back to these fab four, my cheeks were hurting after our September session and I wanted to stay all night... okay, maybe call my bestest 3, have them meet us downtown, and then stay all night :) Here are just a few highlights for you. As usual, I edited way too many pictures, but when you see all of this goodness and glee before you, you simply cannot hit 'delete'. No sah. M Fam... I felt the love and know you do you too xox

B is for Beautiful

A lot of people dream of this kind of golden sunshine for their sessions, and while me and Mother Nature will always do our best to oblige, it takes a special kind of warmth for the gold to stay. The B family and I had a very cheerful session, munching on pretzels in between navigating the labyrinth of sea grass now so overgrown and lush at Phillips Beach. Their two kiddos are just days different in age to my own and so it is great fun and a familiar challenge to have them sit still in the same place. But then again... who really wants a picture of their babies sitting still? It would look nothing like them. Enjoy these warm and natural highlights from our September session. And don't be surprised if you see these pretty faces in a magazine sometime soon...

50 years and counting

Wow! I hope we are this in love when we've been married 50 years! And that we look this ready for the next 50...

And I hope my Canon is still working and my family is still tolerating non-stop memory sealing then so I can get some pictures like these... 3 generations. Fabulous.

B Family

The B Family was photographed on this same dock not quite a year ago. Not quite is the key! Last year it was cold and blustery, but still I fell in love with this secret location and was thrilled to return this September. This month, it was calm and serene. Little miss big sister and her darling kid brother are as doting on one another as my own dynamic duo and it was a joy to watch them now walking, talking and full of even more spunk than last time we got together.

It is a great honor to photograph families each year that passes so quickly, one I am only just discovering as I celebrate my first anni as a portrait photographer in glorious MHD, and I feel very, very lucky indeed. There is no joy like living in a small town where around every corner is a smile you know quite well. You are forever safe, bundled and never alone. And don't you know, a few days after this shoot, I ran into these two kiddos at the park and they called out to me, perfect smiles in tow, by name. That, to me, is thank you enough.

The R Family

These guys just radiate loveliness, wouldn't you agree? Mom is the sweetest person imaginable and her two boys are among the cutest kids you'll ever see. We enjoyed yet another awesome August evening together and were lucky enough to catch Dad on the tail end. Boston commutes can be a drag! I can't wait to watch these little guys grow up along side my own two sweet ones. Families like these make 01945 feel like a forever home.

Summer Siesta

Well Labor Day has come and gone, the unofficial end of summer, but hey, it might as well be signed, sealed and delivered official around here. The past 3 days have been wet, cold and grey. And so it spurs me to finally blog a few of the sunnier sessions that got put on the back burner this perfect New England summer. They aren't over, the sunny sessions, believe me, but these few may just get us through the next 48 hours that are supposed to be as dismal as the last.

I had the distinct pleasure of photographing a photographer's sons. The reason... capturing your own kids as you know and love them is down right difficult. Why? Maybe because they are immune to your camera tricks. They act up for you as they would do for no one else and they would much rather have your two hands to carry, cook and color with them. Duh. I know it well and take fewer and fewer pics of my own kids these days, but I enjoyed my short session with these two mischief makers, appreciating the few quiet moments between them (pictured here) and understanding entirely why Mom runs around all day after them with little time for the perfect print. I hope to have her return the favor one of these days... maybe when my family is complete!

I mean look at all the faces a 3 year old can pull in 30 seconds or so. Quite something!

And then there was this delightful family. They are some of the few not on facebook these days, and some of the many who opt to not appear as part of the growing buzz of local businesses ala social network. Don't we all have a love/hate relationship with Zuckerberg? Of course I understand, but I've permission to share just a casual snap here... They were lovely!

And finally for today's dose of warmth, there was this little man who I met in a truly enchanted place: The Ropes Mansion Gardens in Salem. Beautiful, beautiful. He's the apple of his parents' eyes and so fittingly he sported red delicious on top. Amidst the ruby roses (that he just wouldn't stand by!) and majestic landscaping I had never seen, he looked just perfect. And his twinkly, have-I-got-news-for-you eyes are oh so dear.

H familyhood

What an honor to photograph these fine folk, together now forever. Their personalities are brilliantly strong and distinct, merging into absolute awesomeness to create this fabulous family of five. Chandler Hovey is a special place to Mom and Dad (how many of us did actually get proposed to at the lighthouse, or even in it?!) and what a glorious evening we had in its majesty. There are, oh, just about 407 pictures coming their way on CD soon, but for now, here is a little peek into their fabulousity. Enjoy.

And a little surprise here, al final. Perhaps not to be recommended as I must admit I snapped the causeway shot, one handed, while following the fab five back onto the mainland. Maybe it's my fondness for wranglers bursting with love or my affinity with that island road that is our first stop each and every morning, but I love this shot of the H family, driving into the sunset, into the beauty of togetherness as they all so deserve.

Wedding Bliss

I recently had the enormous privilege of photographing the wedding of dear Liz and Ryan. Now, I don't agree to weddings without some serious consideration. Everything has to be just a perfect match for me and my strengths and style, but if you could meet these two, the absolute definition of a perfect match, you would see why I simply couldn't say no. A few months back, I captured them in pre-wedding mode. Gosh, it was a perfect little engagement session. And then August 6th arrived and there is simply no way I can explain what a special occasion their wedding was, even to me, who comparably only just met them. The soft light, the perfect breeze, the stunning bride, the besotted groom, the proud and doting family, the small details and overwhelming joy, all on the shoulders of the majestic Atlantic Ocean.

Liz and Ry, it was truly an honor to watch you two wed. And may I just say, that if the way you treat your working photographer (putting her on the seating chart, smothering her with delicious food and surrounding her with your family and individual love and appreciation) speaks to the characters and hearts you two possess, you are quite something special. Well, I don't need to tell you that. Here's to you both, Mr. and Mrs. B, and your new beginning as man and wife. A beautiful, beautiful beginning it was. And don't you know... the best is yet to be.

L Family - 1 year later

When your job is capturing time on camera, it is really quite an honor to literally watch it unfold. These jolly four were among the first to grace my lens last fall when the weather was just changing, the little ones were even littler, and everything was just right. This year, we met on a glowingly sunny day in July and they lit up the screen all over again. Mama L is one of the sweetest people you can imagine, and her children and lucky hubby have soaked up that goodness and radiate it back. It was such an privilege to photograph this family again. It is one I don't take lightly. Needless to say, without wishing time away, already, I can't wait to see what next year brings!

Days gone by

I've been a little busy. Well, a lot busy, but it's awesome, humbling and I thank you. Some days ago, I had the great privilege of photographing this fine family that 01945 recently inherited. Lucky, lucky us. They became fast friends of pretty much this whole town and I hope they stay a long, long time. Mr. B Jr. and KK are as golden as the sunshine on their smiles, and their parents are pretty fab, too.

On Eagles' Wings

For years I've tried to deny it, but maybe everyone who goes to BC really is superhumanly awesome. My hubby, of course, tops the list, but these two also rank pretty high, as far as I can see. Our sunset session was one of the happiest, easiest, most enjoyable yet. Little boy CC is CCC: crazy, crazy cute. What a jolly soul. And his parents were just a joy to meet, greet and capture at this most happy, beautiful time in their lives. And so, for Chris O'Donnell, Ed McMahon, old favorite students of mine, Mr. and Mrs. C, generations of Dosch's and my sincerely dear better half, Heightsonians, I take my hat off to you. Sneak Peek D family

This is a great family. You'll soon see it. The laugh-out-loud good time we had during this session ended my weekend so perfectly. Needless to say, I went to bed that night with a big smile on my face. Kind of like the ones you'll spot below. I have known and loved these two kids, now barely kids, since before I even met my own two and it was a joy to capture them on a truly stunning summer's night, in their neck of the woods, just being themselves. I should also state the obvious by saying their parents are young, vibrant and such a beautiful couple. Thanks, D family, for letting me hold one hour of your spunk still. There is a beauty in this love, I mean job of mine that I never really expected once upon a time when I dreamed it up... and it's this: You meet these quite remarkable people. They share your town. Your sand. Your skies. You stumble in awe of their radiance, that day at the meeting. Their laughter. Their desire to just be. And be captured being. And then, as if by coincidence, but not, you meet again. And again. Sometimes in town. Sometimes in the sand. And then again, oh so luckily, in front of the camera. To renew your awe of them. To make you, too, smile. To make every moment of this job a love.

C Generations

You may remember these smiles, these dimples, these magazine eyes. I was lucky enough to meet and photograph the C Family back in October 2010. Sigh... Today, their boys are almost a year older, and even more handsome. Their joy somehow seems even greater, too. On this shoot, I was fortunate enough to get WSC III, IV and V all together. Wow. The grandparents were visiting from California and what a special way to capture their stay. I hope you love these pics. I sure do. Generations Sneak Peek

I love the way these families think. Lucky me, I've shot both of them before, but just mom, dad and kids. This weekend (a terrific one to visit 01945) their extended families were visiting from far and wide and so these forward thinking moms booked me for a generation-rich photo shoot. I should know, when the whole family is in town (which mine was over the 4th ... photos, but not like these, to come!) there's never anyone to capture all the faces smudged together, just as you hope. My mama has been trying for years! I've just downloaded these five off the camera, but seeing all these similar smiling faces before me makes me so happy and I had to share a little sneak peek right away. I have another two sessions today, then a couple mid-week shoots, and I'm delighted to be back to sharing photos with you! June was rather crazy, to say the least. Check back here again soon!

The C Kids

What a joy and honor to photography these fab three. Once upon I time I was their teacher and fell in love with their spunk, decency and joy. Now, still in touch, I admire them as young adults, on the brink of all things wonderful and wise. Their sweet Dad had the remarkable idea to surprise his most beautiful bride on their anniversary last week with some pictures of their trio at home. What a guy! Seriously. The kids obliged, as did their sweet pup, the waves, the sunshine, their mama's garden flowers, everything. There were ridiculous numbers of awesome shots. Here are just a few of my faves. Look at these three. A trio etched out of Heaven. And truly the salt of this Earth. Lucky are we to call this family our friends. They are new to Marblehead but you'd never know. The size of their hearts and depth of their spirits have made the entire town flock to their backyard. I heard someone joke that Mom was going to run for Mayor of Marblehead. She would win, don't ya know. Anyway, we were blessed with this perfect early-summer's night. The light so gentle and warm and Phillips beach was in all its glory. Taking photos of friends is quite fantastic. An evening spent giggling and running through waves. Capturing the laughs you have come to cherish and seeing those little smile lines and dimples set in stone before you. What a joy.

It has been a busy, busy few weeks. I'm sorry I've completely neglected my electronic self. But here's a little catch-up, well, just a few highlights. Some of my favorite pics from recent sessions are being kept under lock and key for Papa's Day next Sunday. Oh, it's killing me not being able to share these gems, but hopefully these few will keep you smiling anyway. We've got our own surprise ready for Mr. D next week, and the biggest surprise is that it doesn't involve photos (oh, wait, yes, I did order a giant 16 x 24 canvas for him, sssh.... but there's more...) I can't wait to share a pic of it, coming from a new-found fabulous town hero, when it's given. This perfect gift aside, if you're still struggling with ideas, don't think that your fellow won't love a photo of his girls and boys, and wifey of course. They may act like royal pains in your family photo shoot, leaving the sunglasses on, refusing to hold your hand, looking at the clock on their Blackberry, even checking their mail... they may pretend to be unsentimental and stoic, but you know they're longing for a picture of their heirs and heirs-giver in a masculine frame for the office. They're proud as heck of what is most theirs here on Earth and there's still time! Do it!

The big brother twins were among my first photo sessions when they were wee, and now, two years later, little L&J have joined the family. Together. Just look at those toes! If you're saying to yourself, 'I don't know how she does it...' Let me tell you, it's with patience, practicality and purpose. This is one smart and selfless lady. Not to mention the goodness and generosity of her other half. Here's to you, M family of six. I take my hat off to you!

Mother's Day Sessions

I was lucky enough to spend my mother's day morning with three beautiful and happy moms, selfless and radiant as only mothers can be. I traveled from Flat Rock Beach to Fort Sewall and then to Crocker Park, before arriving on the other side to cook lunch and celebrate with my own beautiful mother. Later, it was afternoon tea with all of the gang chez nous and dinner with my own two messy rugrats that make me the luckiest mama there could be. A full, happy, celebratory day. I hope you all spoiled your Commanders-In-Chief rotten on Sunday and took a picture together to have forever. If not, wahey, you can do it today.

Sometimes the light, the mood, the people... they are all just perfect. It's been hit and miss with the weather this Spring, that's for sure, and I've got a backlog of sessions as long as my frontlog (well, you get it) but this Sunday evening shoot brought the glow. No questions asked. Two boys and their fab mama. Lucky, lucky little men. We ran, jumped, hula-hooped, fell and got back up again and their little personalities and lovely smiles shine through it all.

It was a great treat to photograph these beautiful and smart older girls, full of giggles, energy and mischief. I love every age for all of their unexpected challenges and rewards, but having been a school teacher for all those years, these kiddos were a treat. Marathon Monday

I am one of those people who gets a little carried away when it calls for rah-rah-cheering, crazy patriotism, die-hard sports finales, country music fests, well you get the point. That's why, 6 years ago, before Steve and I were married, when I attended my first Boston Marathon, I was sold. I thought it such a bizarre idea to watch a Marathon, I mean, it almost seemed shameful to stand on the sidelines and observe these hometown heroes do their thing, not to mention that the standing involves crazy obnoxious amounts of singing, shouting their names, flags and numbers, all while sipping iced-cold beverages and eating homemade fruit salad and flapjacks. The thing is my hubby spent his forming years on heartbreak hill and quickly won me over. Every year I am absolutely wowed by these wonders of our race. Their stamina, heart, vigor and stories. I have oh so many goals to realize before I depart this Earth, but every after-Marathon-Tuesday, I dream to also have one of those plastic sheets and medals draped over my body, to have my little family scurry to see me in as many places along Comm Ave as possible, to experience the camaraderie of such a victory. I am not sure if this is a goal I can or will achieve, but I am taken there to dream once or twice a year, and certainly am happy to share it, no, give it away to all those who so deserve it. I was lost in the moment... lost... but I snapped a couple of my photos on my 'day' camera and wanted to share them with you today...

Here you see the two Kenyan winners: Mutai and Kilel. Such an honor to have been at arm's length from them.

A few other notable heros. There is nothing like watching the wheelchair race. No words can explain their strength and dignity. No words.
Ryan Hall came in fourth, and got the fastest ever time for an American in Boston.

Samara joined us in the joy and spirit of the day.

And some final moments that made me smile... (at least the ones where I had my camera out...)

We walked from heartbreak hill to Copley and saw the finish line. Among many moments that sent chills up and down my soul was seeing one man, in orange and pink tie-dye, collapse to the concrete, just 500 feet from the end of 26.2 miles. His gaze was one of delirium, overwhelmed exhaustion, emptiness. This inhuman task of inhuman proportions seemed just a few steps too much. Behind the security lines, people gasped, willed him to his feet, cried out every word of encouragement and hopefulness we could. But still, he lay there. Time stopped, but yet the digital clock dangling somewhere in between Crate & Barrel and Papyrus ticked on. All of a sudden, another tie-dyed shirt appeared at his side, bent over his aching body, the colors swirled into one. One man, seconds from his victory, had turned around, reversed from the majestic finish line, and come back for a fellow voyager, believing in the message of a sea of hundreds of thousands and their brotherhood, and not just himself. At first they could not rise, he could not carry this man, and our hearts wallowed in empathy, but with the southwest wind gusting its glory, and the power of so much around him, the two men arose, wobbly and in a place far from Boston, at last making their way to the clock. There I was, just one face, with two innocent babies in my arms, but I could not stop the tears from falling down my cheeks. How gracious it is to witness these moments of humanity and life. To all of the runners, my friends, my neighbors, my countrymen, you have made your mark.

On Eyes

You should know, this photo is straight out of the camera, cropped for the post, no more, no less, just my boy. In fact, the vast majority of my images are largely untouched. A few minor edits, a play with the vignetting, a fiddle with the contrast, but nothing major. I don't have anything against the editing process, in fact, it fascinates me to experiment and occasionally I do, and I love looking at other photog's work and ideas, but one thing I will not touch is the eye color. It's popular in digital photography these days to enhance the eyes. Heck, most of us ladies, and Adam Lambert, spend good money here and there thinking about how to elongate the lashes, dampen the wrinkles, pop the color. On your screen, I could make my little L's eyes a gorgeous shade of aquamarine or cerulean, literally transforming into 3D twinkling spheres, jumping out at you, beyond his baby perfect skin and button nose, putting the rest of his cuteness to shame. You might oooh and aahh, complementing my boy, my set-up of the shot, the works, but on my screen, in my frame, in my home, with the little munchkin border-line-cruising at your feet, you would see that his eyes are not aquamarine nor cerulean. They are not periwinkle or manatee. (That last one I looked up.) They are just Landon. Sometimes the sun will bounce off his kiddie table, blue from the skylights into his soul, and they'll look extra magical. I'll grab my Canon and shoot a pic, the settings all askew, while making pepperoni flatbread pizzas on the stove for Sammy D with the other hand, not wanting to get grease on my baby and lord knows I don't wanna miss a thing. Minutes, hours or days later I'll save it, because well, how can I delete? But it will always look like him and for that, no matter the ooh's and aah's, I will love the picture for all time.

Yesterday was a busy day. A morning session for local Salem business, a playdate with old friends in the old town, an early evening beach session with two of the nicest soon-to-be-newly-weds, and a wine night/recipe exchange with a smattering of the loveliest ladies in the M'hood. Oh and did I mention that there were no naps, but no tears, several hours of sunshine playtime, watering cans out at last, giggly munchkins on the swing for an eternity, a trip to CVS to use my gazillion dollars of extra bucks on their last day, chocolate/toffee breakaways made, two loads of laundry washed and hung on the line (sigh...) a fancy white wine cream sauce spoiled, a chicken and broccoli ziti dinner to the rescue, and an extra cuddle or two with the hubs when all was said and done. Love the sun on the bed in the morning, the sunset after bedtime at night and these long bursting days. And here are a few highlights in color...

It's hailing like crazy here! This time yesterday we were soaking up the sun at Phillips Beach. Gosh, I love it there. And the forecast says there's hope for the rest of the Spring sessions this week... 4 sessions! Amazing. Yet this rollercoaster ride of my other amour (aka Pete Bouchard) ... INCROYABLE. The sun will shine again... I promise. And this gorgeous seagrass will be even more beautiful as it grows with this plentiful supply of eau.

Forget the lamb

March certainly did go out in a the kind of sheepish way we like. Little L was loving the sunshine on his glow-white chunky roll of pillsbury dough boy legs. Notice the flowers-a-bloomin...

He made good use of those tulips, I say, connecting with the South American in us all. Happy days.

And since Samara was sleeping, he took the liberty of wearing her pink, just barely pink, shades.

Let's be honest.... now that she has these...

from some very lucky, very lovely friends who escaped to sunny Florida,
she won't be missing the old plain janes.

Oh, and my happpppppy boy is back. Can you spot the four outed teeth?!

But enter April. Snow, wind, rain. I love me my clothes line, friend of our Earth, our skin, our wallet, used even in December and March, but not this April 1st. No sah.

And yes, that's the best snow pic I bothered. I had not one but two sessions cancel yesterday because the snow just aint all that anymore.

But... the hubby's home, the first time really truly home and with us since all those sad days, and it's ball season, that magical time of year when you can watch pretty much every sport ever mystically dreamed up at any given hour of the day or night. Yes, we heart the all-ball season! And since there's a surprise predicted winner of this year's Dosch/Hare extended March Madness pool, oh yes, I'll embrace basketball as my current favorite of them all.

Is there anything sweeter than baby friends? I love these two, separately, together, and hope they are friends forever since we think the two families are pretty fab together overall. Their parents' story began on the very same day as ours, their love story's first chapter at the exact same setting. And now our four babies are growing up too quickly side by side. Here's to good friends, whose lives have overlapped with ours in so many wonderful ways but none more so than this...

The little man sits playing at my feet on this is it only Wednesday, I miss my husband and need DD on tap kind of day. No nap for this one. Oh gosh, how I needed that nap. It has been a shattering, emotional few days. I look down to see the afternoon shadows upon his soft and fuzzy little head and my tired eyes and lonely heart open again. 24 hours to the minute before this photo was taken, my little boy, Landon Stephen Murray sat quietly and honorably through his first funeral, that of his great grandfather, the giver of his name, his Irish glow, winning smile and lady-loving charm. And this afternoon, Grandpa, though far away from our tears in Marblehead, is with us through and through.

Which camera is the best? The answer, always, is the one you have with you.

This shot was taken on my iPhone 3G. Once a year, we pick a sunny day, usually a week or two after our inspection sticker has expired (oops) to go and get the car checked at Gibbs Service Station in Swampscott. I take the kiddos (okay, the kid singular until this year) to walk the beaches there for a change. And every year I say we'll come back here more. I love the smell of the boats and dock there, the open skyline, view of our favorite little big city, the hidden paths, ramps and shadows. I guess the one good thing about me illegally driving my car for a few days every year while I put off this must-do is that our December inspection anniversary has become a March one, and one day, if I keep up my scatterbrainedness, we might get to enjoy this hidden gem without the goosebumps.

What a tease... Last evening, this was Marblehead. The green, well, almost green grass just reappearing having been covered, without exception since Buh-buh-Boxing Day. Oh, I love me some kickboxing lately, really it's my new wanna-be obsession, but we've been pounded with this white stuff and it's taking the mickey out of Marblehead, the beauty out of Boxing. (Did you know I'm British...? Well, there you go!) I never tire of snap-shooting different corners of this town. I wonder if you recognize this one...

But...flash forward a few hours to the crack of dawn this morning and what do you have it... our old friends are back on double duty, the flakes are more than falling, they are boxing us in, and well, it's winter all over again.

Thank goodness I got three, yes three emails this morning booking sessions for March and April. Some folk out there really are thinking out of the bitter box. Amazing! High season is a coming and I just can't wait.

My oh so wonderful hubby knows that there are women who expect flowers, women who detest flowers and women who say they think flowers are a waste of money but feel like a million bucks when they appear before her. I am the latter.

He spoiled me with chocolates from heaven, which happens to be across the street, a touch of smelly delight from an old fave of mine, the quintessential Swedish Fish and Gummi Bears, and so much loving. I made a color-coded scavenger hunt to the perfect romantic evening. A little over zealous with a sick baby and love-to-party toddler, for sure, but isn't it better to have loved cheesily and failed than to have never loved cheesily at all.

Flash forward to this morning. The hubby's at LAX and look who's having breakfast in bed...

What a great group! So much energy, such super personalities. It was a joy to spend a windy, blue-skied hour with the extended family this past weekend and get to know each of them just a bit. Hats off to these thoughtful kids and grandkids for making photographic memories for their elders. It's the holidays and there'll be other shoots coming just like this, and I know they'll make some grandparents very, very happy. There's no timeless, happy gift like a picture of those you love...

A new and great place to take photos, Redd's Pond, became an adventure haven on one of the first seasonal days this fall. Not crazy cold, not warm like June. Little boy, N, makes these still photos seem animated. Both he and his were just wonderful to work with. I was spoiled for choice for a sneak peek. He's a handsome kid with a huge repertoire of faces. Enjoy these few....

What a serene, loving and beautiful three. I felt refreshed just to spend a portion of a spectacular late day with them. Oh, the waves, the sea spray, the sunset...all just stunning. But nothing compared to the peaceful beauty of this young family. And if it is possible that in a short crossing of our paths on some November eve they could have held time still and become unforgettable....they did.

It's a lucky little boy who has two big, big fans in his parents. These three were such fun to photograph. The adventurous little one had tons of fun ideas for good shots and what an afternoon it was to be surrounded by the water on three sides.

What a wonderful and wise mama to be blessed by and in control of three fabulous and fast boys, single-parenting it for the weekend. All the way from North Carolina, this sweet family fit right in with the New England foliage, the crackling Marblehead Atlantic, and the bitter breeze of November. They were super like that.

A windy November eve brings out the calm and storm in us all. This was a loving family, a patient mother and father, and two fast, fun kids. Parents always worry their kids are less cooperative than they wish, alas, they are all of a hand and foot's worth of weeks or months or days old, but I always say the pictures will show the deep love.
